Meetings · macOS
Murmur records your microphone and your Mac's sound, so no bot joins the call. Afterwards, through your ChatGPT account, you get a summary and a transcript of who said what.
Me, Sam, Priya and Alex agreed on the Q4 priorities and set a launch date for offline mode.
Vocabulary
Add the names and terms you use, and Murmur spells them correctly every time. When you fix a name right after a dictation, Murmur learns it on its own.
Thanks to Priya for leading the design review this morning. We agreed to move the desktop app to Tauri before the next release, and to transcribe on the Mac, with Codex only for the cleanup. Mathéo will share a first build on Thursday. Priya and I will test it on Friday and send our notes by Monday.
Privacy
When Murmur transcribes on your Mac, your audio stays there. With ChatGPT connected, only the text goes out for AI cleanup, and audio goes to the cloud only when the local model can't help. History marks those dictations.
When you choose the cloud, and for meetings, the audio goes to ChatGPT. Your history, recordings, meeting notes and Insights stay on your computer, and the code is open for anyone to check.
The download count is read live from the GitHub releases.
Windows beta
The beta brings dictation to Windows 10 and 11 on x64 PCs. It uses the same Codex session, signed in with your ChatGPT account.
Yes. Murmur is free and open source under the MIT License, with no subscription. Transcription on your Mac has no quota.
Any Mac with macOS 10.15 or later, Apple silicon or Intel. Transcribing on the Mac itself needs macOS 15 or later on Apple silicon, or an Intel Mac; other Macs transcribe in the cloud with a ChatGPT account. The Windows beta runs on Windows 10 and 11, on x64 PCs.
Dictation in any app, cleanup, Insights, History and custom words. Local transcription, meetings and automatic updates are not available yet on Windows: the beta transcribes with your ChatGPT account.
No. On a Mac, Murmur transcribes on the computer itself, with no account and no API key. A ChatGPT account is optional: sign in to Codex with it to add AI cleanup, more languages, cloud transcription and meetings. The Windows beta needs that account.

No. Murmur records the sound on your Mac, so nobody joins the call and the other participants see nothing new.
Recording the other participants needs an Apple silicon Mac with macOS 14.4 or later. From macOS 15, Murmur also tells the speakers apart on the Mac itself. Meetings are transcribed and summarized through a ChatGPT account.
Yes for transcription on a Mac. Once the local model is downloaded, you can dictate without a connection. AI cleanup and meetings need the internet, and so does the Windows beta.
Open the DMG and drag Murmur to Applications. On first launch, Murmur offers to download the speech model, about 500 MB on Apple silicon and 740 MB on Intel Macs.
Download the setup file from the latest pre-release on GitHub and run it.
